sunday march 28th

ANOTHER POLENTA ADVENTURE! (or placenta as drew calls it. because he is a classy adult person like that).

fried, woo! with smoked cheddar, carmelized onions and mushrooms, and asparagus.

leo has mega jealousy issues and is always staring.

TOMORROW WE ARE SEEING SPOON AND DEERHUNTER.

saturday march 27th

i made risotto for the first time...in a very long time..or ever...i dont remember.

why do ppl make a big production thing of risotto? maybe i didnt do it correctly. but it tasted effing good. i sauteed an onion, added the arborio rice (is that what it's called?). 'toasted it' like a douchebag, added some white wine. when the wine evaporated. i added a ladle full of simmering chicken stock at a time, waiting for it to be absorbed between each ladle. a bit of a pain i guess because you have to stand over it the whole time, stirring...but i liked it, damnit.

when about a litre of stock had absorbed and i thought the rice was the proper doneness i added a big handful of freshly grated parmesan, a tablespoon or so of butter and a ton of fresh thyme.

sorry for the blurry.

served with roasted chicken thighs and asparagus......lalala. it was creamy and delicious and maybe i will eat the leftovers RIGHT NOW.

some day in march

i made a disgusting OPENFACEDMURDERFACE sandwich and also a smoothie. i dont want to talk about it any more than that.

sunday march 21st

today i made something straight out of the spring issue of food and drink via my subconscious. (ok, NOT straight out of...strongly inspired by). yesterday (?) at the g-store i saw a tube (ew) of polenta, had a vague idea fromididntknowwhere pop into my head, and bought it.

tube of polenta is an amazingly convenient, gross-ish thing. i just cut some thick slices, fried it in a pan with some grapeseed oil and a tiny bit of butter (i swear, not much!) and kept it warm in the oven while the zucchini and tomato sauteed and the eggs were poached. my intention was to skip the egg, but turns out that's where 'my idea' was from- a feature on eggs in food and drink. i gave up resistance.

crispy-on-the-outside-creamy-on-the-inside polenta on plate. old cheddar on polenta. zucchini and tomato on top. poached egg on top of that. fresh basil SPRIGS. and a bit of parmesan. the cheese melted quickly and everything fused together and it was actually really really good and i want to make it (or a variation) again for suresies!!

ORDER FUCK UP ALERT

dear blogger:

please add a feature which would enable kind folks to change the order of their posts. even if they have posted them correctly and it is you, blogger, who fucked it up.

thanks.

love erin.

friday march 19th

spaghetti with italian sausage (made by my dad, yes), and a tomato sauce that cooked for 7 days. (a coupla hours).

the sauce was crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, a ton of dried oregano, fresh basil, 1/4ish bottle of red wine, mushrooms, garlic, onions, shit dude i dont remember what else because today is sunday and im posting about something i made on friday!!!!!!

i also made garlic bread with garlic duh, butter, old cheddar, cherry tomatoes and fresh basil.
and the wine we had with it was amazing. together. with it. THE PAIRING. i didnt want to say that.

saturday march 20th

my eating habits are hilarious and contradictory and full of trickery and lies and hilarious because they are those things. tonight i convinced myself to eat this cereal...

...instead of blue corn tortilla chips/salsa...........WHILE WAITING FOR THE FRIES TO FINISH BAKING FOR POUTINE. WHY BOTHER ERIN?! i might as well have chewed on a stick of butter for 'first dinner'/'snack while making dinner'/'third lunch'.. whatever.

anyway, i turned these little ladies

into this

(also put some old white cheddar, sauteed mushrooms and green onions, topped with mushroom gravy).

POUTINE MONTH.

then i felt guilty and had carrot sticks, cucumber and radishes for a 'snack' while watching...umm....nevermind.

tuesday march 16th

today i made blurry soup.

sigh. i seriously need a new camera if im going to continue this!!!!

i used the leftover chicken from sunday (was going to make this monday but was handed some unexpected tickets to see our lady peace play 'clumsy' in its' entirety..more on this below!). FOOD NOW. also, carrots, green onion, celery, fresh chives, chicken stock, LEFTOVERCHICKENGRAVY, chow mein noodles and some miso paste. in a fancy world we could call it 'miso chicken noodle soup.'

end of foodtalk. NOW, REAL TALK. back to monday night:
i still remember the first time i heard 'clumsy'. i was 'at the mall' and it was playing in music world. remember that place? i somehow worked up the nerve inside my awkward, anxious grade 7 body and asked one of the supercool salespeople what was playing. i bought it on the spot. i felt so cool.

so when, on monday night, a friend messaged me with 8th row tickets, and i was literally in my bathing suit, on my way out the door to go swimming, i said 'yes please'. i put running shoes on instead and went for (what seemed like) a year-long run (it was only 10 minutes) to make up for the lost swim. i wore the same american apparel leggings to the concert that i went running in. im still trying to figure this 'exercise' thing out, ok?

i roasted a FREERANGEORGANICSUPERHAPPYHIPPIELEZZIECHICKEN...with tarragon, white wine blah blah. mashed potatoes with sour cream and roasted garlic.

please help, seriously. stop me. call me names. like, 'fat'!

i have lots of veggies in my fridge. but i continue to ignore them. im sorry you guyses.

today is my mom's father's birthday. he is dead. happy birthday, grandpa!

friday march 12th

my disinterest in cooking and desire for mostly white, fatty foods continued into friday, yay!

if you know me at all i've probably mentioned my love of chips. specifically, plain chips with white vinegar, microwaved. im not fucking with you. make sure to use enough vinegar so the chips are actually SOGGY.

i 'learned' this from my mom when i was little. she told me, growing up, they didnt have varied chip flavours, so her mom would put vinegar on plain ones and warm them up in the oven. thanks to a thriving 80s microwave culture, my mom adapted the recipe. HAHA.

i ate these while making macaroni and cheese. wow.

i made a roux, added cream, and 7 pounds of cheese- old white cheddar, medium cheddar and cheese curds!

blurry macaroni and cheese:

i am this woman.

i love leo.

this is my life.

thursday march 11th

today i decided to make another disgusting poutine. ew! that was only a week ago! i need to spread these mistakes out.

sweet potatoes.

you cannot see what happened next.

but i will say there were cheese curds (I DONT LIKE CHEESE CURDS) and mushroom gravy with white wine and i should've just drank the wine and skipped theeverythingelse.

monday march 8th

you can only eat so much office-building-sushi, so today i ran home at lunch and made A BLURRY SANDWICH:

to make a blurry sandwich you need:
two slices of dark rye.
hummus.
zucchini.
cherry tomatoes.
lettuce.
feta cheese.
mustard.

ok?

sunday march 7th

i havent felt like cooking lately. i think i need to go to therapy. also, my camera (lens?) is effed and all the pictures i've been taking have come out blurry!!

ok i guess this one's fine-ish.

it's an omelette, obviously.

saturday march 6th

today i made this amazing birthday card for kari.

that picture is from an old "good housekeeping"...i found a bunch of old magazines at my nanny's once and cut out pictures i liked. because im 4.
i just noticed i forgot to write 'happy birthday' on it...or anything at all which may indicate it's a birthday card. i think she still 'got it'!

surfer blood at sneaky dee's was really great.

thursday march 4th

today i decided i would make poutine every day, forever. BUT DIFFERENT, WACKY-TYPE POUTINE! retarded.

the 'inspiration' was breakfast! ok! no probs! POUTINE BENEDICT IT IS!!

i started with "ruby little gems". i die whenever i see them in the grocery store, and finally gave in to the adoreableness. i want to keep you all in my pocket, all the time. i want to tuck you into bed at night and kiss your foreheads.

they turned into pretty tough little fuckers though. i pretty much broke my teeth off eating them. TUCK YOURSELF IN AT NIGHT.

"poutine benedict" requires 3 egg yolks and two eggs. and 1/4 cup of butter. and a pile of cheese curds. and my stomach is not feeling the greatest as i write this.

ok so i took the roasted LITTLE GEMS placed a poached egg on top, dumped fresh cheese curds over the egg, and topped them with a hollandaise sauce and green/spring/WHATEVER onions.

i seriously dont feel well.

i drank a giant glass of white wine to try and erase in my mind what i just did to my body and then i made leo pose with me and this made sense at the time. (it is still that time).

ps: new feature! "music to eat to!" tonight it was the constantines. poutine..canadian....etc. what.

wednesday march 3rd

today i made a soup full of too much fucking nutmeg.

my brain told me, 'hello, you are going to make roasted cauliflower soup tonight'. but the result tasted more like roasted garlic and toomuchfuckingnutmeg soup.

i roasted a whole head of cauliflower, a few carrots, an onion, and ok maybe a bulb or two too many of garlic. i dumped it into a pot, added vegetable stock, maybe a 1/4 cup of cream (if that), toomuchnutmeg, and blended the shit out of it.

to individual bowls i added a spoonful of sour cream, grated old cheddar and a few green onions! the end!
